Some people look forward to retirement. Others hate the thought of giving up their work. The majority have mixed feelings.  The speech given at their retirement function can go a long way towards making them happy about the change in their lifestyle. Retirement speeches should, you see be positive. Whether they have worked all their lives selling shoes or as the C.E.O of a huge organisation a speech given by a manager or colleague should speak of the contribution made by the retiree. That speech should make the retiree feel proud of himself or herself. It should send a message that that lifetime’s work was worthwhile and beneficial to the company. That speech should say how much that person affected others in the organisation too. It should speak of friendships made over the years and how important they we e and will continue to be. It should treat the future as a blank canvas ready to be filled with exciting happenings and worthwhile pursuits. Whoever is giving that speech should give the retiree the message that retirement is, in the words of the old song, the start of something great.
