Santa is probably too busy just now to write speeches

Author: Niamh

Santa is probably too busy just now to write speeches. However if he had time he could certainly write a motivational speech telling companies just how to run a successful business. He would speak, for instance, of creating a demand for your product, in his case toys. He could definitely explain that the best possible way to do that is to ensure that children knew about the products in question, so they would certainly be his target market. His advertising campaign would be aimed directly at them in the sure-fire knowledge that they would then persuade their parents that Santa should bring them their heart’s desire. He would certainly be able to give tips on how to manage a business during a recession. He would suggest for instance moving to a low cost economy like the North Pole and using local labourers called elves to make those toys. The long nights would mean that he got twice as much labour for the same outlay. Santa though is no fool and he would know that labour relations would be enhanced by treating his workers well. So he would ensure that Mrs. Claus gave them Christmas cakes and puddings at their tea breaks. Although dressed in red Santa is very green in his outlook. He would make sure his transport system did not harm the environment. Finally he would see that all his deliveries were made on time and so ensure customer satisfaction. His business is a role model for any aspiring entrepreneur, Advertising agencies may sell dreams but Santa makes them come true.

Can we spend our way out of the recession?

Author: Niamh

Can we spend our way out of the recession? Certainly many Governments are hoping that the Christmas shopping season will help boost faltering economies. We hear jingles on the radio and the television blares out the message “Spend, spend spend”. Is such advertising, though, feeding our greed not our need? There is no doubt that it was a case that shopping was the new religion. Sunday opening ensured that the Sabbath was no longer a day of rest. Nowadays, however, with so many people unemployed or afraid that they will become unemployed the attitude to shopping has changed. One thing is certain more and more people shop online. They consider by doing so that they will have more variety from which to choose and cheaper prices. However is such shopping a short term convenience but a long term loss? After all it will lead to the loss of many local stores and it certainly increases the risk of fraud. The ease with which you can buy also makes it a strong possibility that you will buy things you don’t really need. Maybe it would be a better idea to support your own local economy and buy at local farmers markets and art and craft fairs. Perhaps someone near you provides a service that would be an appropriate gift for someone on your shopping list. So when you are making out that Christmas list consider the implications of what and how you buy.

Is the recession over or is it being tackled the right way?

Author: Niamh

Is the recession over or is it being tackled the right way? The experts have differing ideas of course but what of the man or the woman in the street? Can he or she do anything to counteract what is happening in the economy? Can he or she help create the jobs that are so necessary for economic growth? Perhaps it’s about time that they realised that Life is a challenge and how they meet it is what is important. In other words it could be just a case of turn your thoughts into actions. It may be simply a case of take a night class so that you have the skills necessary to start a new business. It could mean moving house to avail of new job opportunities. It might mean that you should think outside the box and look at the situation from a different angle. Have you ever considered having a think tank with your family and friends? How about a local community meeting to see what is needed most in the area? Could you or a neighbour provide a service? Most of us don’t have any influence on the financial markets but we can all make changes in our own lives. Those changes could lead to jobs on a small scale. It’s time to take the initiative. There’s nothing wrong with cottage industries or being self supporting. You may never be an Apple or a Google but you can have self respect. It’s up to you.
