Anniversaries are a time for us to look back and to look forward too. Whether it is a golden wedding anniversary or the anniversary of a member of the clergy doesn’t matter. The feelings of things achieved and those yet to achieve deserve mention. That is if you are giving a speech on such an occasion. It could, of course, be the anniversary of a store, a hospital or a school. Businesses too have their anniversaries. So no matter what anniversary it is you should speak of the past and what it has meant. It is alright to mention the failures as well as the successes because by doing so you are giving the human touch to your speech. You should speak too of the future but in a very positive way. So express good wishes for all the good things that are yet to come. In other words end your speech by giving it the wow factor.

The wise employer takes any opportunity to motivate staff. It’s even better of course if he or she can do it in social surroundings. In these straightened times it doesn’t have to be at a black tie ball. It could, instead, be at a few drinks to celebrate the anniversary of the company. It might be at a staff outing such as a picnic or barbeque. If a company is having an annual dinner the wise employer will say a few words of encouragement and motivation to the staff. That is not to say that such occasions call for lengthy speeches. Indeed these are a definite “No, no” at a social function. We all like to be appreciated though and expressing such appreciation will do no harm to staff relations. It helps too to make the future of the firm seem interesting. Making a few humorous remarks or mentioning something topical will also add to the speech. Above all the wise employer will make staff members feel involved and an integral part of the success of the company. The word “We” should feature prominently in whatever he or she is saying. This speech should be chatty as well as challenging.

Anniversaries should be celebrated. Whether it is the anniversary of a business, the anniversary of a school or a silver wedding anniversary the occasion is one which should be marked in a special way. Whatever kind of function used to celebrate a good speech will definitely add to the occasion.
Obviously should a speech should be positive in tone because it is about the success of that school, business or marriage It is about survival and growth. A touch of humour always adds to the speech as does reminiscence or two. After all it is a time to look back on the achievements over the number of years being celebrated.
It is also, of course, a time to be motivational and to look forward to the future of the couple, the school or the business in question. These are not the only anniversaries, of course, because all sorts of organisations such as sporting clubs, universities or churches also have anniversaries and they too should be celebrated. After all in this instant age there is a lot to be said for organisations that stand the test of time. Finally, of course, the speech should end with a toast to the future.
